Bettye was born at her family home “Hillcrest” in Alamo, Tennessee on October 20, 1932 to the late Evelyn Boling and Claude Hansford Conley.
Bettye graduated from Alamo High School. She attended the University of Memphis, formerly Memphis State University and Rhodes College, formerly Southwestern at Memphis, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
She spent 63 loving years with her husband, Alsey Austin Mann, whom she married on July 17, 1954. She was a charter member of the 9th Review Club of Brownsville and a member of The Garden Club. Bettye was a devoted wife and mother. Bettye’s quiet dedication to her faith and family were her strength in times of blessings and hardships. She loved the beauty of Mother Nature, and the hours spent in her garden were evident of that fact, a love she inherited from her Father, as well as her love of animals. As a young child and teenager, she raised pea fowl, pheasants, white tailed deer and her beloved elk, Lady and Gent.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Betty Conley Mann, her parents Claude Hansford and Evelyn Boling Conley of Alamo, and a sister, Mary Will Conley Black.
She is survived by her husband Alsey Austin Mann; a daughter Mary Evelyn Mann Pafford (Larry) of Alamo, TN; two grandchildren: Tracy Kail (Jeff) and Kevin Pafford; two brothers: Columbus Hansford Conley (Norma Betis) and Claude May Conley of Alamo, TN; her dear cousin Craig Bradford Laman (Susanne) of Alamo, TN; and her two special friends: Michael Rutherford of Brownsville, TN and Jay Walker of Somerville, TN.
