Betty Jean's Obituary Mrs. Betty Jean Taylor Outlaw age 83 of Bells, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 in Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born November 21, 1934 in Haywood County to the late Henry Taylor and Fannie Alexander Taylor. Mrs. Betty Jean, as she was affectionately called, touched so many lives as she taught at all of the elementary schools in Haywood County. Her patience, love for children and dedication to furthering education always kept her in high demand. She was a faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees and taught children’s Sunday School. Mrs. Betty Jean was an avid gardener and helped on the farm when needed. She loved antiques and had expertise in refinishing them. She was also an excellent cook, never knowing how many would be there to eat. Mrs. Betty Jean could have a feast prepared in a moments notice. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. Whatever they wanted to do, she was eager to join in on the fun. She was kind, soft spoken, never met a stranger and a friend to all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Outlaw; sister, Helen Taylor and brother in law, Ben E. Sutton. Survivors include a son and a daughter, Gene Outlaw and Wife Jan and Sherri Gaters and husband Tommy all of Bells; two grandsons, Taylor Outlaw and wife Emily and Hunter Gaters all of Bells; sisters, Elizabeth Taylor Sutton of Tyler, TX and Juanita Taylor Kirkpatrick of Bells as well as her caregivers who became family. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Taylor, Ken Taylor, John Taylor, Alan Taylor, Mark Outlaw and Randy Joyner. Honorary pallbearers are Berkley Cobb, Michael Earl Morris, Mark Johnson and Keith Sullivan. Funeral services for Mrs. Outlaw will be conducted Monday, June 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Brownsville Funeral Home with Bro. Rob Kirts officiating. Burial will follow in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Brownsville Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Alton Williamson, 821 Providence Road, Jackson, TN 38301.
