Alsey Austin Mann, Jr.

Alsey Austin Mann, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 16, 2021. He was 89 years old. Funeral Services will be conducted at Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Sammy Tillman and Jay Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the Tabernacle Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Mann will be on Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 12 noon until the time of the service at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Alsey was born at his family home in the Rudolph Community in Haywood County on March 7, 1932, to the late Phoebe Sweet and Alsey Austin Mann. Alsey graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, TN. He attended Arkansas State University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He married Bettye Conley Mann on July 17, 1954. They were married for 63 years until her death in 2018. He served his country in the United States Army 10th Infantry Division from 1955 to 1956 where he was stationed in Germany. He attended First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, TN, where he especially enjoyed Wednesday Night Bible Study. Alsey was a man who faithfully lived his values. He fulfilled every obligation he undertook. His word was his bond. He was a devoted and loyal husband and father who could always be counted on to be there no matter what the circumstances. He loved to tell a good joke, but his humor was never mean spirited. Alsey was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Conley Mann; his daughter, Betty “Connie” Mann; two brothers, Fred Thomas Mann and Louis Claiborne Mann. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Evelyn Mann Pafford and son-in-law Larry Pafford of Alamo, TN; two grandchildren, Tracy Kail (Jeff) and Kevin Pafford; his longtime and devoted caregiver, Teresa Smith; one sister, Sue MacPhail and brother-in-law, Bob Parks of Brownsville, TN and his special friend, Michael Rutherford of Nutbush, TN. Pallbearers for the services are Chris Call, Bob Bond, John King, Michael Rutherford, Chick Moses, and Tanner Mann. The family asks that any memorials be made to Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Betsy Thornton, 57 Old Highway 19, Brownsville, TN 38012. A special thank you to the dedicated staff at Sugar Creek Retirement Home and Dr. Clarey Dowling and staff of Brownsville. Words cannot express our heart felt gratitude for their kindness and dedication. All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
