Allen was born on May 20, 1933, in Haywood County to Allen Gooch King, Sr. and Pattie King. He worked as a farmer in Haywood County. He served as a County Commissioner for 62 years. He was the Chairman of the Southeast Boll Weevil Eradication Program for 15 years. He was a strong supporter of Haywood County public schools, and he filmed the Tomcat football games for 33 years. He enjoyed living is this community and he was a man of faith who loved his church. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted family man and loving husband of 66 years to Patsy Walker King. Family was important to him, and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pasty Walker King; two sons, Gooch King and John King (Blanche); one daughter, Jane Jameson (Richard) all of Brownsville, TN; nine grandchildren, Harriet Jameson Brooks (Marcus), Mary Jameson Stewart (Scott), Martha Jane Jameson Wright (Michael), Patsy Jameson Cobb (Berkley), Scarlett King Hill (Dakota), Emily Gooch King Crawford (Brent), Mary Will King, Robert Allen King (Carley) and Taylor Ann King; six great-grandchildren, Leslie Ann Knox, Jameson Leo Brooks, Benjamin Crawford, Lillian Jane Brooks, Susanna Hill, and Adeline Walker Cobb.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Pattie King, Sr. and one daughter in law, Karen King.
Those serving as pallbearers will be John Willis, Richard Jameson, Mark Roberts, Robert Allen King, Claiborne Gillespie, and Dr. Robert Rooks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tyson, Ronald Woods, Buddy Moses, Lyle Reid, Tommy Hooper, Chester Dixon, Jr., June Walker, Peter Mascolo, Willie Terry, and Ronnie Byars.
The family has requested any memorial contributions should go to First Presbyterian Church, 109 W. College St., Brownsville, TN 38012, or to Joyner’s Campground, c/o Mrs. Virginia Ann Walker, 3690 Yum Yum Rd., Somerville, TN 38068.
All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
